Contactless technology and NFC software provider ViVotech is the latest firm to join the ranks of smart card specification body GlobalPlatform.

ViVOtech has joined GlobalPlatform as an Observer Member and is expected to play an active role in the organisation’s Mobile Task Force.

The Mobile Task Force now brings together 25 of GlobalPlatform’s member companies, who work together – in collaboration with other industry standardisation bodies – to define technical requirements and specifications for a common and interoperable mobile payment infrastructure.

In addition to participating on the Mobile Task Force, ViVOtech will add its voice to the GlobalPlatform Advisory Council, which is an open forum for all members to discuss strategy, industry trends and the business and technical activities of GlobalPlatform.

“ViVOtech has been a supporter of GlobalPlatform’s open technology and our NFC mobile payment wallet and Over-The-Air (OTA) provisioning infrastructure software are developed on GlobalPlatform’s architecture,” says Mohammad Khan, president & founder, ViVOtech.  “It seemed a logical step to become a member of the organisation and actively participate in industry initiatives targeting mobile applications.”
