Samsung Electronics says it has developed a new smart card chip for use in credit cards and wireless products.

The new chip uses the company’s 90-nano production technology and has a built-in 288KB EEPROM.

Samsung claims the chip allows faster user authentication processes and provides greater protection from hacking to other chips currently on the market.

The company says the new chip will be mass produced later this year.
